Membership at Hills Church
We believe God calls us to devotion in the local church. But how is being a member different than attending regularly or just being an occasional visitor? What’s the point and does anything really change?
Membership isn’t simply the formality of having your name on a church roster, having gone through a class or two, or just having a pastor that will perform your wedding or your funeral.
Membership in a local church as we understand it from the bible means one is part of a local covenant community of faith in Jesus Christ. It has been described very well this way: “Church members are those who voluntarily make to God and to one another their basic moral and spiritual commitments and the practice of their faith.”
Membership is for those who have found Hills to be their church home. Our members believe that God has called them to share in the mission of making faithful disciples for Jesus in Pullman and the surrounding area. The purpose of membership is to help individuals grow spiritually through commitment and accountability, and to mutually bless one another which gives God glory through doing so.
The following are the commitments our members live out at Hills:
Faith in Jesus. Being a baptized lover and follower of Jesus Christ is absolutely first and foremost. He must be our common foundation together to build our lives upon (Jn. 3:16, Matt 10:37-39, 1 Jn. 4:15).
Demonstrating consistency in gathering with the local church family (Heb. 10:24-25).
Being an active part of a small group body under a faithful appointed leader (Acts 2:42-27).
Living in accordance with basic biblical truths in faith/life/bible beliefs (1 John 1-3, James 1).
Serving other Christians amid the church by the grace that God gives (Rom. 4, 1 Cor. 12, 1 Pet. 4).
Faithfulness in bringing your tithes/offerings/NT generosity to Jesus at the local church (Acts 4, 1 Cor. 16, 2 Cor. 9).
Trusting and follow the pastors/overseers as they function under the provisions of our local bylaws (Heb 13:7-8, Heb. 17-18, 1 Thess. 5:12-13).
Requisites for becoming a member at Hills include working through the Hills Series and Membership Bible Training.

God is building something wonderful through the members at Hills Church. We desire to be used by Him for His purposes, and we heed the words of Paul in 1 Cor. 3.10-11 “Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
